The Genetics behind Autism and the Autism Spectrum
In recent years, scientists and geneticists have collected more and more data in researching autism. Some data supports a theory that states that Autism may be Polygenic Inheritance. There may be as many as 1,000 different genes that could determine autism. Other data supports the theory of autism as being a mutation. This kind of mutation is a result of adding and deleting the bases on the particular strand of DNA that is part of a gene. If Autism were a mutation, it would have to be a Non-Disjunction, Spontaneous mutation, as researched by UCSF (University of California, San Francisco). Mutations on chromosome 16 have been directly tied to Autism. This, in turn, may (if mutated) cause Autism. A few of the 1,000 genes that could effect Autism could be Sex-linked.
After careful research, I have come to another theory. My theory would be that Autism and its spectrum is controlled by many different genes, some of which are Sex-linked, and others that are Non-Disjunction Mutations. It is not completely clear to geneticists on how Autism is inherited. Extensive Research is being conducted, and the information and cure for Autism will be soon uncovered.
