Practical Concerns and the Significance of Autism
According to the latest research, 1 in 68 children has Autism. This is a 29% increase from the statistics, 1 in 88 children, from two years ago. Percentage-wise, continents like North America, Europe, and Asia have only 1% of their population affected by Autism. In total, approximately 67 million people are affected by Autism and the Autism Spectrum around the world. In addition, males are 5x more likely to have Autism than females, which supports the fact that 1 in 42 boys have some form of Autism.
The children who are affected by it are, in some way, very intelligent. Some are math geniuses, while others are natural craftsmen and can fix anything given to them, and the rest are special in their own way. It is not that normal people can't do all of this, but something is present, if you have Autism, to make you a more special and a unique person. Adults with autism have trouble finding jobs and spouses. Even though most symptoms of Autism diminish after reaching adulthood, shyness, communication problems, and social issues linger after adulthood.
Autism is usually detected early on, before the age of two. At age one, if the child does not babble, make direct eye contact, respond to name or parent's voice, or smile and laugh at others, the child may have Autism or Asperger Syndrome. At age two, if the child does not speak 1-2 word phrases, find any interest in games, play with others, and if they lose language skills from before, they may have Autism. This may not be the case for all children with Autism or in the Autism Spectrum, but these are the most common symptoms.
