Autism Speaks: Spending and Expenses
Autism Speaks is a non-profit organization. This means that it uses its surplus revenues to further research their focus, which is Autism and the Spectrum. In simpler terms, this mean that is the charity has more money left over, they use it to fund their research and campaigns, instead of paying high- class and ranking employees. This goes to show that the intentions of the charity reflects the money they make and spend.
In Figure 1, a donor can see that Autism speaks made about 5 million dollars less than what they spent in December 2012. Most of their revenue came from Government Grants, Contributions, Campaigns, Fundraising, and Membership Dues. All in all, Autism Speaks made $53,301,122 for their revenue. The expenses that Autism Speaks has was divided into 3 main areas. Program, Administrative, and Fundraising were the 3 areas that made up the Expenses. In total, Autism Speaks spent $58,720,256 for their cause.
In Figure 2, the Contributions Breakdown can show a donor that most of the money the charity made was from Contributions, Gifts, and Grants. Other categories include Government Grants (least of the contributions), Federated Campaigns (second to last in contributions), and Fundraising Events which make up 7.6% percent of their contributions.
In Figure 3, a donor can see that 70.9% of Autism Speaks' expenses is directed towards their program, which is great for a non-profit charity, because it shows that they actually fund their research. About 24.4% of their expenses are for fundraising events and efforts that they support. Only 4.7% of their expenses are used for administrative purposes. This means that Autism Speaks doesn't overpay nor regard their executive officers as an unequal opportunity position.
All in all, these chart shows that Autism Speaks is a good charity to donate to.
